Info | "Maria LaBoy is an instructional supervisor and teacher mentor in the Vineland public schools, where she began teaching English as a second language in 1973. She also has served many professional organizations, most recently on Gov. McGreevey’s State Literacy Task Force and the Vineland Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council. She sits on the Cumberland County College Board of Trustees and is president of Hispanos Pro Educacion, a nonprofit organization raising scholarship funds for Hispanic students. She and her college-age son make their home in Vineland.
Ms. LaBoy’s parents immigrated to the United States from Puerto Rico and began working in New Jersey when Maria was a little girl. She began at Atlantic County Community College and earned a scholarship to New York University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts. She holds an MA from Seton Hall University and is working on her doctoral dissertation at Rutgers’ School of Education.
Her legislative priorities: To empower citizens through a constitutional convention to address New Jersey’s out-of-control property taxes; to reform the auto insurance system that has given New Jersey the nation’s highest statewide average premium; and provide affordable and accessible healthcare for all New Jersey consumers.
Maria is anxious to bring her experiences as a mother, educator, Hispanic woman, and community leader to Trenton to represent residents of the 1st Legislative District. If elected, Maria LaBoy would be the first woman to serve as a legislator to this district."
