Info | Councilmember Vergos was first elected to the City Council in October 1995 as District 5 representative. Mr. Vergos received a B.A. degree in Government from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. degree from the University of Memphis. Councilman Vergos is one of the owners of his family's restaurant,The Rendezvous and is president of Vergos International Products, Inc., the exclusive distributor nationwide of all Rendezvous products. Active in community affairs, Mr. Vergos has served on the Mayor's Advisory Commission on Transportation, Memphis Interfaith Association, Shelby Farms Advisory Board, and is currently on the Board of Directors of Citizens to Preserve Overton Park. Mr. Vergos serves as the City Council's liaison to the Memphis & Shelby County Sports Authority. In 1971 Mr.Vergos served as the chairman of the Penal Farm for Public Use Committee, which ultimately prevented a 5,000-acre parcel of land in the heart of Shelby County from being sold for development. Mr.Vergos was also one of the original developers of Timpani Condominiums, the first project that renovated downtown cotton buildings into residential and commercial units. Mr. Vergos and his wife Ellen have three children: Anna, Katherine, and Charlie.
