InfoBrad Cole is currently Mayor of the City of Carbondale, Illinois. He was elected to that position by a city-wide vote and leads a seven-member elected City Council. As mayor, Cole sets policy direction for a "home rule" municipal government, with a $42 million annual budget and 300 employees in a 25,000+ resident community, which is home to the second largest public university in the state (Southern Illinois University at Carbondale). He was elected the youngest-ever Mayor of the City of Carbondale at the age of 31.

Mayor Cole previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Illinois. He joined the Governor's Senior Staff management team in January 2002, and was charged with directing the operation of the Governor's downstate office. His duties included coordinating the administration of government services with all state agencies, primarily in the southern 40 counties of Illinois. He first joined the Governor's staff in April 1999, monitoring revenue/taxation, economic development, education, and transportation matters.

Mayor Cole serves as a member of numerous boards of directors for both public and private organizations. These include the Illinois Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and the Illinois Masonic Children's Home board of managers. He has served as President of the Southern Illinois Mayors Association, is Chairman of the Lower Mississippi Delta Development Center board of directors (a multi-state economic development partnership headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee), and is a board member for Sister Cities International, the Illinois Municipal League and the Illinois Republican State Central Committee.

In March 2002, Mr. Cole was selected by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) to be part of a six-member delegation to study the political structures of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. In May 2005, Cole participated in a similar exchange program to Germany and Belgium as a Manfred Woerner Fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

Before his public service roles, Brad held the position of Assistant Director of the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association from 1995 until 1999, and previously had been a research assistant in the SIU Office of Economic and Regional Development.

The Mayor is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, with a bachelor's degree in a double major of political science and biological sciences and a Master of Legal Studies degree from the SIU School of Law.

Brad Cole, age 35, resides in Carbondale, Illinois, and is involved in many local civic activities. Prior to being elected mayor, he served a four-year term as an elected member of the Carbondale City Council; he was also a Commissioner for the Carbondale Park District and a Trustee for the Carbondale Public Library.
