Info | Capt. Samuel Pailthorpe King
King, has been a U.S. District Court judge in Hawai'i since 1972 and has served as chief judge and senior judge. He is active in the Republican Party and is a member of several community boards. In 1962, he unsuccessfully ran for Governor.
son of Samuel Wilder King, a former territorial governor, was born in Hankow, China. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Japanese language specialist, retiring in 1967.
In 1946, King entered private law practice and was appointed a district magistrate in 1956. He also served on the circuit, family and land courts, and was named to a federal district judge post in 1972.
He is one of the community leaders who authored the "Broken Trust" critique of the Bishop Estate.
