Info | Ava Bear grew up on the Muskoday First Nation close to Prince Albert, and married when she was in Grade 11 while attending the Prince Albert Technical High School. After graduating high school, Ava began a 17-year clerical career and the work of raising a family.
One of Ava's greatest achievements came in 1993. As a band council member at Muskoday First Nation, Ava decided to run as Vice Chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council. She won, and for two years commuted to Saskatoon to fulfill her obligations. But at the end of her term, she decided not to pursue re-election due to family responsibilities.
Ava returned to Muskoday First Nation and soon regained her position with the Muskoday Band Council, a position she held until 2001.
Ava's goal has always been to work with people to try and make a difference. While serving on the Muskoday Band Council, she held the education portfolio and was pleased to see that during her tenure, measurable progress was being made as more students were staying in school and graduating.
In 2003 Ava took a run at provincial politics, becoming an NDP candidate in the Batoche constituency. She finished second with 36% of the vote.
