Info | As an Emergency Medicine Physician, Iowa Senator David Hartsuch, MD confronts every emergency with a cool head in order to offer the best cure. His practice in Detroit’s inner city and subsequent practice in Bettendorf has given him a unique perspective on the social and economic problems confronting Iowa and the nation.
When Iowa was hemorrhaging from excessive taxation and out-of-control spending, Dr. Hartsuch knew that drastic measures were necessary. Despite stiff opposition from Des Moines insiders, Senator Hartsuch challenged an 18 year Republican incumbent. He ran a successful grass roots campaign based upon the mantra of “limited government, lower taxes, and stronger families.”
Senator Hartsuch remained true to his promises, and fought to limit the steady expansion of government and taxes, opposed hidden taxes on health care, and defended traditional family values. The Quad City Times noted his exceptional performance as a freshman in the article, Hartsuch is Not Content to Sit on Senate Sideline.
Senator Hartsuch took a leadership position to defend Iowa’s traditional family values from the radical social agenda of Senate Democrats. He withstood Democrat insults in order to protect Iowa's Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and offered legislation to protect The Boy Scouts of America and other civic groups from lawsuits which will likely arise from radical modifications of Iowa’s Civil Rights Act.
Senator Hartsuch now thinks that it’s time to tame the federal beast. Heavy taxation, draconian regulation, and wasteful earmarks are suffocating our state, and limiting our economy. To make matters worse, Washington elites trivialize the will of our people to defend our country and the values which have allowed it to prosper. Senator Hartsuch will now fight to clean-up Washington.
He and his wife Christine live in Bettendorf with their three children Matthew (11), Elizabeth (9), and Rebekah (2). He is a graduate of University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, is board certified in Emergency Medicine, and completed his residency training at Detroit Receiving Hospital in Detroit, MI. He graduated with a B.A. in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and worked as a Certified Public Accountant. His experience with Savings and Loan mergers in the early 1980s at the height of the Savings and Loan crisis will be invaluable to addressing the problem of sub-prime lending. He also has a Masters in Computer Science from University of Minnesota and is concerned about data privacy and security issues. Senator David Hartsuch will get the job done.
