Info | Senator Walter R. Gooley is currently serving his first term in the State Senate. He represents Senate District 18, which includes all Franklin County—with the exception of Jay—and parts of Kennebec and Somerset Counties. He also serves as the lead Senate Republican on the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for the 123rd Legislature.
Senator Gooley was a member of the Maine House of Representatives during the 117th, 118th, 119th, and 120th Legislatures. During that time, he served on the Criminal Justice and Public Safety and Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committees. He was also a member of a Special Committee on Biomass.
A part-time consulting forester, the Senator owns Conifers Unlimited in Farmington, where he grows and sells Christmas trees, making him the first professional forester to serve in the Maine Senate. He is also a member of the Farmington Rotary Club, the Society of American Foresters, and the Maine Christmas Tree Association.
Because of his success as a forester, Senator Gooley was awarded with a fellowship with the Society of American Foresters. He also received a Trees for People award from the Canadian Forestry Association and the Maine Forest Products Council’s Public Service Award.
Senator Gooley resides in Farmington with his wife Joanne, where they enjoy skiing, golfing, fishing, hunting and growing Christmas trees. They have two children, Chris and Cate, and four grandchildren.
