Info | Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell is honored to have been appointed to Cleveland City Council on January 14, 2008 to represent one of the most diverse Wards in the city of Cleveland. Ward 6 encompasses the neighborhoods of Fairfax, Fairwood, Woodland Hills, Buckeye-Shaker and Little Italy.
Councilwoman Mitchell received her BBA and MBA from Cleveland State University her juris doctorate from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. As a longtime resident of Cleveland, she is proud of the area she serves and has assisted and counseled many community organizations and served on nonprofit fundraising committees. She plans to continue to work on community and economic development in Ward 6 to enhance the neighborhood to its full potential.
Before serving on Cleveland City Council, Councilwoman Mitchell gained extensive experience in public service, community relations and diversity as a manager at BP America and as a judicial staff attorney for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. Most recently, she served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
Making the community a clean, safe and beautiful place for Cleveland residents is one of Councilwoman Mitchell’s main concerns. She wants to promote safety and security in her communities and make Ward 6 a destination where residents are comfortable to live, work and raise families. She also has plans to spur job growth and development in Ward 6 so all residents have the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families.
Councilwoman Mitchell is a member of the Black Women’s Political Action Committee, an advisory board member of Cleveland State University’s Levin College of Urban Studies and a trustee for the Cleveland NAACP. She plans to serve the Ward 6 community to the best of her ability by supporting a safe, secure and comfortable neighborhood to all residents.
