Born: June 9th 1960
Raised: Rural South Dakota
Marital Status: Married with three children
Current Residence: Northern New Mexico
(23 years)
Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering

(23 years),
University of New Mexico (10 years as an
Adjunct Professor),
Ron received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in systems optimization, his Master’s degree from New Mexico State University in advanced manufacturing, and his Bachelor’s degree from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a minor in economics. In 1998 Ron spent a year at the University of California Berkeley as a Visiting Research Scholar pursuing research in the area of decision theory.
Ron joined the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1983 as an Analyst in the Engineering Division. In 1995 Ron created and led the Center for Advanced Engineering Technology. In 2002 Ron joined the newly formed Center for Homeland Security as Assistant Director and subsequently became Technical Chief of Staff with responsibility for technology integration across the Chemical, Biological, Nuclear, Radiological, and Critical Infrastructures threat spectrums. In 2005 Ron took on the responsibility for coordinating the Laboratory’s response for homeland security events. In this role Ron participated in several national events including hurricane Katrina response, the California wild fires, and Secrete Service detail for the President’s State of the Union Address, the Presidential Inauguration, the National Governor’s Convention, the Rose Bowl, and New Year’s Eve at Times Square. While at Los Alamos, Ron has authored over eighty technical papers and is a five time recipient of the Department of Energy’s Award for Excellence.
For the past ten years Dr. Dolin has been an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Dolin was elected to serve on the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos Advisory Board. He is also a member of the New Mexico State University Mechanical Engineering Academy. Ron was a wilderness K-9 search and rescue volunteer and a member of the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol. He is a published poet, has authored six stage plays and ten screenplays, and is currently working on his first novel.
When Ron was in first grade his parents decided to take advantage of the GI Bill and attend college - becoming the first members in either of their families to earn college degrees. To pay for college while providing for their family Ron’s Dad worked as a carpenter and his Mom as a waitress. The constant struggle with financial hardship brought Ron, his two sisters, and their parents close together. After graduating with teaching degrees Ron’s parents worked one year in rural North Carolina and then returned to South Dakota to teach on the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Reservation. When the struggle to provide a reasonable life on teacher’s salaries became unreasonable, Ron’s Dad took a state position overseeing geriatric programs in Northwestern South Dakota, including the Meals-On-Wheels program. Later he took a job working with mentally challenged children preparing them for independent living. Ron has tremendous respect for his parents and the strong positive examples they have provided his life.
Ron believes in constant self-improvement and that hard work equals success. He has been continually employed since fourteen - including stints as a ranch hand, cook, carpenter, plumber, and sheet metal fabricator. To pay for college Ron worked has a store clerk, school bus driver, DJ, and printer. Ron has a strong sense of social responsibility. He is active in his community coaching soccer and baseball and served as a little league commissioner. Ron is active in his church teaching both Catechism and first communion classes. Ron volunteers in the elementary classroom and works to improve educational opportunities for adult students. Ron has mentored over twenty-five students at the Los Alamos Laboratory and has run several student educational activities – most recently a lecture series on homeland security.
“After 9/11 I awoke a deeper understanding to the responsibilities I have beyond myself. This understanding prompted me to set aside satisfying research to seek out homeland security missions so I could do my part to strengthen and preserve our Nation. … Northern and Eastern New Mexico are not being adequately served by Congressman Udall or the current status quo of our incumbent congress. New Mexico needs a strong leader who is not afraid to weigh in on important matters and vote their beliefs. As a political outsider with expertise in national security, homeland security, energy security, and advanced technology – as a university professor skilled in education and critical thinking – as a husband married to an immigrant immersed in the journey toward becoming a citizen – as a father and a son supporting his immediate and extended family – as an average citizen struggling to carve out a small piece of the American dream while planning for an uncertain future - I believe I have the competencies and experience necessary to make profound contributions at this monumental moment in our Nation’s history.”
