Info | Jane Dunphy will represent the party in the Electoral District 2 (Georgetown-Saint Peters).
Dunphy said will focus on strengthening Island communities that have been undermined by the policies of the Binns government.
She believes that the government refusal to sell the fish plant in Souris to the Fishing Families Co-op has hurt local communities greatly.
"I would be willing to wager that a plant run by that Co-op would not have had to import workers from Russia. Local control and ownership and fair wages can go a long way to attracting Island workers away from the lure of Alberta."
Dunphy is an active member in her local community, where she owns and operates Annandale Bed and Breakfast and serves on the Island East Tourism Group. She is a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Little Pond.
Dunphy was the Island New Democrats' candidate for the former District 3 in the 2003 provincial election. Dunphy served for six years as an elected municipal representative in the Niagara region of Ontario prior to moving to Prince Edward Island in 2001.
