MMike Currie was born on February 1, 1955, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. For eighteen years, Mr. Currie owned and operated Currie Fuels in Georgetown, PEI.
Mr. Currie served on the Cardigan Village Commission from 1993-1996. He also served on the Board of Directors of Eastern Ventures and on the Cardigan Recreation Committee.
On November 18, 1996, Mr. Currie was elected to the Prince Edward Island Legislature and was subsequently re-elected on April 17, 2000 and September 29, 2003. He has served as the Minister of Transportation and Public Works (November 1996 to May 2000) and Minister of Development and Technology (May 1, 2000 to present).
He is currently Minister responsible for PEI Business Development Inc, Technology PEI, PEI Food Technology Centre and PEI Liquor Control Commission.
Mr. Currie has been a member of the Treasury Board and the Agenda & Priorities Committee, as well as the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Environment. Presently, Mr. Currie is the Vice-Chair of Treasury Board and an active member of the Standing Committee on Fisheries, Inter-governmental Affairs, and Transportation. He is also a member of the Community Development Bureau and the Healthy Child Development Board.
Mr. Currie and his wife, the former Christine Shephard, reside in Cardigan, Prince Edward Island. They have two adult children, Mark and Brad.
