Info | HIESTER, Daniel, (brother of John Hiester, cousin of Joseph Hiester, and uncle of William Hiester and Daniel Heister [1774-1834]), a Representative from Pennsylvania and from Maryland; born in Berks County, Pa., June 25, 1747; attended the public schools; engaged in business in Montgomery County; colonel and brigadier general of militia and served in the Revolutionary War; member of the supreme executive council of Pennsylvania 1784-1786; commissioner of the Connecticut land claims in 1787; elected as an Anti-Administration candidate from Pennsylvania to the First, Second, and Third Congresses, and reelected as a Republican to the Fourth Congress, and served from March 4, 1789, to July 1, 1796, when he resigned and moved to Hagerstown, Md.; elected as a Republican from Maryland to the Seventh and Eighth Congresses and served from March 4, 1801, until his death in Washington, D.C., March 7, 1804; interment in Zion Reformed Graveyard, Hagerstown, Md.
