InfoTzipi Livni was born in Israel in 1958. She is married and the mother of two children.

A lawyer by profession, Livni received her law degree at Bar Ilan University, and practiced law in a private firm for ten years before entering politics. Her fields of specialization included commercial law, constitutional law and real estate law.

Livni served as an officer in the IDF, and later in the Mossad.

In 1996, Ms. Livni began her public activities, when she was appointed Director General of the Government Companies Authority. In this capacity, she was in charge of the privatization of government corporations and monopolies.

Tzipi Livni was elected to the Knesset in 1999 as a member of the Likud party, and served as a member of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, and the Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women.

In 2001, Ms. Livni was appointed Minister in the 29th Government, and served as Minister of Regional Cooperation, Minister Without Portfolio, and Minister of Agriculture.

In February 2003, Tzipi Livni was appointed Minister of Immigrant Absorption in the 30th Government, in which she also served as Minister of Housing and Construction. In December 2004 she was appointed Minister of Justice, and in January 2006 - Minister of Foreign Affairs.

As one of the founding members of the Kadima Party, Minister Livni is involved in the formulation and implementation of its policy.
