InfoSince 2001, Pierre has worked as principal economist for the Canadian Labour Congress in Ottawa where he is responsible for looking at issues regarding the labour market, economic security for Canadian workers and the impacts of trade agreements.

Pierre has long been engaged with the goings-on in his surroundings. Among other activities, he was involved in the student movement in Quebec and the United States where he served as president of the Graduate Students� Association at the University of Massachusetts. He was one of the instigators of a union movement for teaching assistants at the University of Massachusetts that emerged upon the creation of Local 2242 of the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Pierre earned a doctorate in economics at the University of Massachusetts. He taught economics as a teaching assistant, then helped increase the profile of Quebec among the New England political, media and business communities through his work for a Quebec delegation.

Upon returning to Quebec, Pierre worked briefly for the Caisse de d�p�t et de placement in Montreal before joining the research team of the Canadian Council on Social Development as a research associate.

In 1998, Pierre joined the team at the United Steelworkers of America in Quebec as an advisor on questions concerning pension and economic issues.

Raised in the Outaouais, Pierre is the son of Michel and Claudette Lalibert� who came to the region in the early sixties and became known in their professions of optometry and nursing. Pierre is married to Carmen Bauer and is the happy father of Sophie, three years old.
