Info | Gord Perks has worked in the environmental movement since 1987.
Gord began his work at TEA in 1997. His main campaign areas are Waste Reduction and Public Transit. As Senior Campaigner at TEA Gord also works with the Executive Director and staff to develop campaign goals and strategies.
Prior to joining TEA, Gord was Executive Director of the Better Transportation Coalition, from '94-'96. From 1989-'93 as Pulp and Paper Campaigner for Greenpeace Canada, Gord was successful in getting provincial support for Ontario's Zero Discharge Regulation, phasing-out chlorine in pulp mills by 2002. At Pollution Probe from 1987-'89 Gord was the principal author of the Canadian Green Consumer Guide - Canada's best selling non-fiction book in '89-'90. NOW magazine voted Gord as Toronto's top activist in 1995
Gord has also been a member of many government-sponsored environmental roundtables and working groups including the National Roundtable on the Environment and Economy, Forest Working Group in 1993; the Ontario Tax Issues Working Group, for the Auto Sector, in '95; and, the Transit Integration Task Force for the Province of Ontario, in '95. He currently sits on the City of Toronto's Environmental Roundtable, the City of Toronto Apartment Building Diversion Working Group, The Ontario Waste Electronics and Electrical Equipment Working Group.
Gord is an member of the honorary Boards of the Community Bike Network and the Smart Commute Association.
Since 2003 Gord has been the Environment columnist for Eye Weekly. In 2005 Gord became an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto Environmental Studies Department.
