Info | Cynthia Lai immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1972. She became a first-time homeowner in the riding of Scarborough-Rouge River in 1979. Cynthia is planning to move back to one of her investment properties in the riding as soon as she sells her property in Willowdale where she currently lives with her husband C.K. and their two sons Derrick (18), Darren (15) and their family dog Sparkie.
Before entering into Real Estate in 1983, Cynthia worked as a Laboratory Technologist in the Biochemistry Department of St. Michaels Hospital, as a Flight Attendant for CP Air and a Travel onsultant for a reputable travel agency in the Chinese community.
Cynthia Lai was the first Chinese female President of the Toronto Real Estate Board, one of only five female Presidents ever elected in the Board's 83-year history.
In 1994 Cynthia took on the challenge of being the branch manager for Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd. at a Scarborough Agincourt location and was the only visible minority in Royal LePage's national management team. In 1999 Cynthia became Asian Business Development Manager for Royal LePage. In 2000 Cynthia accepted a contract position with Royal LePage Relocation as a Relocation Consultant for the Department of National Defence. Later that year while taking on the position as Manager for Re/max Goldenway Realty, Cynthia served on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Real Estate Board for 5 years, a term that culminated with her Presidency.
Cynthia currently serves as the President of Visar Group of Companies and also as the first director with Chinese heritage ever elected to the board of the Real Estate Council of Ontario.
She is one of the 6 people in the Chinese community to be honoured by the Asian Business Network Association as the "2005 Chinese-Canadian Legend" on October 29, 2005.
