Elected to the House in 2000, Rep. Behnen owns and operates German Genealogy Research (GGR), a family tree research service specializing in German heritage research and old German document translations.

Rep. Behnen is a member of the following organizations: board member, Northeast Missouri Senior Service Council; board member, Missouri Humanities Council; president, Kirksville R-III School Foundation; 2001 president, Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce and former board member of the Adair County Family YMCA. He attends Mary Immaculate/St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Adair Co. Republican Club, Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the NRA, the Kirksville Noon Rotary and the Adair County Historical Society.

Rep. Behnen is an Army veteran who achieved the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He was honored with the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and also named Soldier of the Quarter HHC, V Corps.

A 1984 graduate of Lindberg High School, Rep. Behnen received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration-marketing from Truman State University in 1991 and received an MBA from William Woods University in 1996.

Born May 8, 1966 in St. Louis, Rep. Behnen and his wife, Michele, reside in Kirksville.
