Really the most surprising part is that the R finished 3rd without other Rs siphoning the vote. A majority of voters voted for a registered Dem here

RBH: *calm rhythmic breathing to prepare for entering 115 counties in multiple huge primaries*
Namaste, the various large MO primaries are now in.
In which the reigning MO Speaker of the House finishes behind a perennial candidate (Carter) and the Twitter candidate only shows up twice in the deviation map (in Phelps/St. Louis City)

in the scheme of things, the more challengers try to go after an incumbent in a state with no runoff, the better it is for the incumbent

always fun to get the occasional Dem primary where the losing candidate at least has neighbors who like them even if they lose by 20+

Redfield did some polls in September 2020 in AZ/MN/NC that were a bit off of the field result
Tina Smith by 15 (51-36) when she won by 5 (49-44). Cal Cunningham by 11 (49-38) when he lost by 1 1/2. Roy Cooper by 19 (55-36) when he won by 4 1/2. Mark Kelly by 17 (52-35) when he won by 2.

yeah there's a period of around 15 years of Minneapolis/St. Paul elections where I'd need to see the ballots.. but for 1993 Minneapolis, the results list the party affiliations

felt like we needed a note for why an incumbent finished with 84 votes in a primary

Missouri has a form of early voting, but I'd suspect the % of votes being cast on election day is higher than most states

Tuesday night is gonna have the duality of finding out how far a candidate who mostly exists on the internet can go in a down-ballot primary, and how many actual election officials are gonna lose to somebody who reported spending under $10K with less than 2 weeks before election day

Now the California State Assembly races from 1930 to 1960 are entered on here just in time for the Olympics and the resumption of primaries in various states. Fortunately CA's election results are both on Archive.org and also the candidates with multiple party nominations have their party of registration listed first.
Also some of the 1920s party standings make 62-18 look close on the graph.
