Description |
A special election was held to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Gov. Edward Tiffin. Return Jonathan Megis, Jr. beat his rival, Nathaniel Massie, in this election, but the state legislature determined Meigs did not meet the residency requirements to become Ohio Governor. The state legislature declared Nathaniel Massie the winner but he refused the position of Governor and Ohio Senate Speaker Thomas Kirker continued as acting Governor until the 1808 general election.
