| Description |
State Senator Chris Brown (R-Ventnor) announced a surprising retirement in early 2021. Democrats rushed to rally behind popular Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo, while republicans backed former Assemblyman Vince Polistina with minimal opposition.
Both Phil Murphy and Donald Trump are unpopular here, and both candidates are tied to their parties standard bearers. Mazzeo has supported many of the democrat Governor's initiatives that have grown unpopular in South Jersey. On the other hand Polistina hosted a fundraiser for the former President with Donald Trump, Jr. right outside the district.
For Mazzeo's favor he is a popular Assemblyman who will make sure his district gets plenty of goodies from the Camden based democratic machine, and Polistina has already lost a race for this seat 10 years ago.
However Mazzeo is a notoriously bad debater, and Polistina is a dedicated campaigner with charisma and a deep bench of Atlantic County republicans to come to his aid.
