I see a prediction was made for Katie Porter. I think that’s one name who can be crossed off. She was held to an unconvincing win against a poor opponent who had no outside help and raised hardly any money. I would suspect given how narrow the Democrats majority will be that there is much of an appetite to risk losing another seat in a Special Election, just like the election for Katie Hill’s seat.

The Kyl situations a bit different as he left so they could appoint loser McSally.

And I assume the Porter prediction is she is a Warren Dem that can satiate the Left and the Establishment

If I had to make a prediction about timing.. here's how the timing might work out

January 3rd: New Congress starts, but it's a Sunday, so they won't convene

January 5th: New Congress convenes, also the Georgia elections.

January 6th at the earliest: Mitch seats Perdue and Loeffler. If Warnock/Ossoff win, they'd probably wait until the certification.

I'd guess a Harris resignation would be in-between the 5th and 19th. Maybe with the appointee being ready to take a seat quickly.

So, Becerra/Padilla or maybe Barragan if we're going with "first Hispanic Senator from California who is also a woman" instead.

Man Becerra's out. I have to think it's Karen Bass or Alex Padilla.

Pulling any House Members out (beyond Richmond) for any position is going to be a tough proposition.

When Becerra became Attorney General, there was a seven-month gap between him vacating his House seat and Jimmy Gomez being sworn in to replace him. With the narrow margin in the House for Democrats, that's a big factor.

This is also a factor for the "Deb Haaland for DOI" campaigners, although my reading of NM state law says the vacancy could be as short as three months and change.
