Description Just a stone's throw from the Peak District is the seat of Amber Valley in Derbyshire. An area where mining, iron founding and textile industries have declined, the seat was created in 1983, carved out of the former constituencies of Ilkeston and Belper. It was a Labour stronghold after WW2, passing to the Conservatives in 1983. Labour won in 1997, but lost to the Tories in 2010.

The ITV drama series Peak Practice was filmed here. Now the constituency is home to chocolate giant Thorntons, Denby Pottery and construction firm Bowmer and Kirkland. More than one in five of the population works in manufacturing - the fourth highest proportion among constituencies in England and Wales - and almost 10% work in construction, according to ONS 2011 Census data.

In 2010, Nigel Mills won for the Conservatives with 38.6% of the votes; Labour got 37.4%, Liberal Democrats 14.4% and BNP 7%.
