BBC Constituency Profile:
The vast Highland constituency of Inverness, Nairn and Lochaber is one of the largest and most beautiful in the UK. At its heart is the vibrant city of Inverness, transformed and regenerated in the last three decades and home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and the University of the Highlands and Islands.
Tourism is a crucial industry in this seat, which employs more than a third of the workforce in distribution, hotels and restaurants. It takes in Loch Ness, reputed home of the eponymous monster, and the skiing resort of Aviemore. Just outside Inverness lies Culloden, site of the last stand of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745 and the last mainland battle fought in the British Isles.
The seat was won by the Liberal Democrats' Danny Alexander, a senior UK government minister, in 2005. He held the seat in 2010 with a majority of 8,765 votes.
