BBC Constituency Profile:
Midway between Cardiff and Swansea, this M4 corridor constituency contains the town of Bridgend and the seaside resort of Porthcawl. It is also home to the headquarters of South Wales Police.
Although the seat is a centre for light manufacturing, with several firms taking advantage of the area's good road and rail links, there is a high proportion of public sector employment - 33.4% work in state jobs, the 45th highest proportion in the UK.
Labour have held the seat since 1987. In 2010 Madeleine Moon won with 36.3% of the vote, ahead of the Conservatives on 30.4%, the Liberal Democrats on 22.6% and Plaid Cymru on 5.9%.
