BBC Constituency Profile:
One of the most densely populated and truly multicultural constituencies, Lewisham Deptford has a highly qualified population, but with relatively high unemployment. The south-east London seat contains a large number of professionals but the 62nd-highest unemployment level of all constituencies in England and Wales, according to the 2011 Census.
It has more 25-44-year-olds than all but 18 other seats and among the fewest elderly people. Lewisham Deptford is in the top 30 for single parents. It has one of the lowest British and highest Irish populations and high densities of other ethnic groups.
Dame Joan Ruddock, a former energy and climate-change minister, has held the seat since 1987, winning the 2010 election with 53.7% of the vote. The Lib Dems had 23.4% and the Conservatives 13.5%, while the Greens took 6.7%.
