Description BBC Profile:
Boundary changes mean that the constituency is created out of wards previously part of the Daventry and Northampton South constituencies.

Daventry has traditionally been a Conservative seat, and in 2005 the party pushed further into the lead with over 50% of the vote.

Following a short spell of Labour control the Tories once again won Northampton South in 2005.

To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

South Northamptonshire is a predominantly rural constituency. It includes the towns of Brackley, and Towcester, and several villages, the largest being Middleton Cheney, Roade and Silverstone.

The seat reaches up to the south of Northampton town, but does not include any significant portion of the town itself. However, it does benefit from its proximity to the county town, and also Milton Keynes, both of which provide employment opportunities within easy commuting distance.

The Silverstone motor racing circuit is in the constituency, and the racing industry provides a significant amount of employment in the immediate area.

The seat straddles the M1 and A5, and has easy access to and from London.
