Description BBC Profile:
Before Barry Gardiner won the seat for Labour in 1997, it was the home of veteran Tory MP Sir Rhodes Boyson, having been represented by the Conservatives since its creation in 1974.

Gardner won again in 2001 and 2005, the latter by 5,641 votes, after a 7.1% swing towards the Conservatives.

At this election, it will lose part of Tokyngton and Welsh Harp to Brent Central following the boundary changes, taking in culturally and economically diverse areas from Alperton, Barnhill, Sudbury and Wembley Central. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Stretching from Wembley Stadium, through Harrow-on-the-Hill in the west to Fryent Country Park in the east, much of the seat is made up of the inter-world war suburban semis immortalised by poet John Betjeman as Metroland: areas such as Sudbury, North Wembley, Kenton, Kingsbury and Queensbury.

There is little council housing and a relatively large private rental sector, with the proportion of owner-occupiers well above the London average.

Wembley stadium is over the boundary in Brent Central, but Brent North will still benefit from investment in the area, new jobs and transport links.
