Description |
During the previous Congress, the U.S. House wanted to make New Mexico a state. One provision in the bill would have required the schools to be taught in English. The NM delegate voted against the bill for this reason. As a result, Congress moved ahead on the bill for statehood for Utah but not for New Mexico.
