Description |
The 2d DR Caucus met in the U.S. Capitol building in Washington DC. It was called to select a replacement for VP Aaron Burr. During Jefferson's first term, the president and vice president became estranged. [It was only after the Caucus met that Burr ran for Governor of New York and held his famous duel with Alexander Hamilton.]
The caucus re-nominated Pres. Jefferson unanimously; George Clinton was nominated for VP with 67 votes to 41 for John Breckinridge.
