Description |
Special election to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Edward W. Pou on 4/1/1934.
Republican nomination
District Republicans chose Brantley to run for the special election around 6/12, as he was already the nominee for the general election (Watauga Democrat, 6/14/1934).
Term of Office
The U.S. House was not in session and Cooley never actually served in Congress during this term. He was later elected in the general election and served for two decades.
