Description |
Republican nomination
The Republican district convention met in Raleigh on 3/31/1934. The delegates offered the US House nomination first to C.N. Cox of Asheboro, who declined to run. The delegates then offered the race to Paul West of Raleigh, who also declined to run. Hobart Brantley, who had sought the nomination in an earlier cycle, was chosen. Brantley said the convention should have looked to a new face (Raleigh News & Observer, 4/1/1934).
