Description |
Democratic nomination
The Democratic district convention met at Plymouth on 8/14/1884. When the congressional nomination arrived, delegates placed Skinner and his then-nemesis Louis C. Latham in nomination. Latham was a delegate and announced he was unable to canvass that year. As a result, the convention nominated Skinner by acclamation (New Bern Daily Journal, 8/21/1884).
Republican nomination
The Republican district convention met at Washington NC on 8/28/1884. Respass was nominated but no newspaper provided details (Wilmington Daily Review, 8/30/1884).
