| Description |
First District Democrats held a convention around 5/15/1835 and nominated Pipkin, who was then a delegate to the state constitutional convention (Raleigh Standard, 5/29/1835). Pipkin withdrew from the race after 7/8/1835 (Greensboro Patriot, 7/8/1835). Afterwards, newspapers reported that Shepard was running unopposed.
