| Description |
Although Maltese had been given the Republican line in the previous general election, as a member of the Conservative Party he was barred from entering the GOP primary by the Queens County party chairwoman due to a dispute. As a result, he ran and won a write-in campaign. Shortly afterward, he changed he became a Republican and was later elected as Queens County GOP chairman.
