Description | Many of us woke up on November 9, 2016 wondering what the hell we could do. Mike Greenfield, the first data scientist at both PayPal and LinkedIn, started running his own opinion polls online to make sense of a world he didn't think he recognized. When he heard about friends doing work in the special election for U.S. House in Kansas, he ran an ad hoc poll there, finding that Democrat James Thompson was far closer than most thought possible.
The day after the election, he read in the New York Times that the Thompson campaign hadn't polled because they were trying to save money. When Mike read up on the state of polling, he was surprised by the high costs, the long turnaround time, and the lack of innovation.
He soon started working with like-minded leaders from the world of startups, data science, politics, and social change to re-imagine both the techniques and the uses of public opinion polling.
Change Research was incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation in the summer of 2017 with the vision of democratizing access to public opinion research to create a more humane and scientific society. We do that by making polling accessible for down-ballot candidates, and by enabling deeper, more frequent dives into public opinion for bigger races. Polling for the People. |
