Description | Islamic modernist party linked closely to and inspired by the dawah (proselytizing) organization, the Indonesian Islamic Propagation Council (DDII). Party began as the Peoples Mandate Council organization founded by Amien Rais on May 14, 1998, and established itself as the People's Mandate Party after 2nd president Suharto's resignation. PAN is most prominent in Southeast Sulawesi, a province on the island of Sulawesi, and controlls much of the administrative machinery there. PAN has been chaired by Assembly Deputy Speaker Zulkifli Hasan since March 1, 2015 [Partai Amanat Nasional (PAN)]. |
