DescriptionFar-left party organized and led by former guerillas of the Rebel Armed Forces (FAR) involved in the Guatemalan Civil War (more politely known as the "Internal Armed Conflict") begun in 1960 and ending in 1996. Party began in 2003 as a union of left-wing protagonists during the civil war called the Alianza Nueva Nación (ANN; later, in 2010, Alternative Nueva Nación), which was made up of the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG), the Desarrollo Integral Auténtico (DÍA) and Frente Democrático Nueva Guatemala (FDNG). Coalition was led by guerilla leader and 2007 presidential candidate Jorge Ismael Soto, known by his nom de guerre Pablo Monsanto, who would lead the party as its secretary general until its dissolution in 2020. When the ANN was dissolved in 2011, party renamed itself Convergence [Convergencia or Convergencia CPO-CRD].
