| Description | Alliance of formerly militant and moderate Tamil nationalist parties. Alliance initially called for an independent Tamil nation until tempered by defeat in the Sri Lankan civil war. Alliance dropped calls for independence and now accepts regional self-rule instead. Alliance consists of the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front, the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi, the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam and the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization. Alliance has been led by R. Sampanthan since inception.
