Center-left party led by Raila Odinga and linked to the once predominant KANU party after it lost for the first time in 2002. Selecting 'orange' represented 'no' in a 2005 referendum for a new Democratic constitution proposed by anti-KANU politician and president Mwai Kibaki, hence the name of the party. Party wound up Kenya's largest and appeared to have won the election of 2007. When Kibaki won instead, civil war broke out resulting in many deaths. War was ended by the intercession of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who brought about a power-sharing arrangement between the two warring parties, starting on February 28, 2008.
