Narodno-Patriotichesky Soyuz Rossii
The People's Patriotic Union (NPSR) was an organization made up of supporters of Gennady Zyuganov in the 1996 presidential election. It contained many Communists but was not partisan, and contained a broad group of anti-Yeltsin forces. It was led jointly by Zyuganov and Nikolai Ryzhkov, and was created in order to offer support to anti-Yeltsin candidates in Russia's many 1996-1997 gubernatorial elections.
While NPSR-backed candidates won more elections than the Yeltsin-backed All-Russian Coordination Council (OKS), the victories did not translate into broader support for the Communist Party due to its more grassroots organization. |
