Description | The Tax Cut Now Party was formed in 1994 in New York State to give George Pataki a third line to run on in the gubernatorial race of that same year. The party passed the necessary 50,000 votes, and therefore gained ballot status for the next four years. In 1995, the party changed its name to the "Freedom Party", however this was challenged in court by Al Sharpton and others who had tried to form a party with that same name in the early '90s. In 1996, Bob Dole ran on the party line, but Pataki chose not to use it in the 1998 election. A few local candidates did use the line that year, which turned out to be the last for the party. |
