DescriptionAtlantic County Freeholder John Risley and Somers Point Councilman James Toto held an event attended by some of the state’s top Republicans Sunday.

“It was great to spend a late summer evening with so many good Republicans,” Risley said. “The feeling out there is great, and the people of Atlantic County understand that this is the best run county in New Jersey, and with a vote for myself and James Toto it can stay that way.”

In an announcement Tuesday, the two candidates said Republican State Chairman Doug Steinhardt, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis), Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson and Atlantic County Republican Chairman Keith Davis attended the event, as did House candidate David Richter and Cape May County Freeholder Marie Hayes.

“Republicans are working all across New Jersey to deliver a red wave in November. There is a movement on the ground to support our message of economic recovery and reject Democrats’ tax and spend plans like the newly announced gas tax increase,” Toto said.

Risley and Toto face challenges from Democrats Caren Fitzpatrick and Celeste Fernandez. Thelma Witherspoon is running for Freeholder Ashley Bennett’s seat. Witherspoon faces Republican Andrew Parker in the general.
