DescriptionRep. Jim Jackson, R-Carrollton, said today that he will retire from the Texas House when his term expires.

Jackson, 72, will have served in the Legislature for eight years. He was also a Dallas County commissioner for 30 years before that.

He doesn’t have any plans other than spending time with his wife Sue and family and friends, he said.
“We’re just excited about the possibilities for the rest of our lives,” he said.

Jackson added that he has asked God if He has anything planned for the outgoing representative.
But so far, he joked, “He hasn’t responded.”

Jackson said he might consider being as a lobbyist if the work fit him morally and personally. He stressed, though, that he’s not seeking out any lobby jobs.

The Republican chaired the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence committee in the most recent legislative session. He was most proud of his work on tort reform and property rights issues, Jackson said.

“I felt like I had a pretty good session,” he said.

And with that, Jackson said he’s ready to be a private citizen for the first time in 38 years.
