Description | DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former Gov. Terry Branstad will formally announce Jan. 19 that he'll again seek the Republican nomination for governor.
Branstad will start in Des Moines, then make his announcement in 17 cities throughout Iowa. He faces primary competition from Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats, and state Reps. Chris Rants and Rod Roberts.
The primary election is June 8.
Democratic Gov. Chet Culver has not formally announced his plans, but has made clear he'll seek a second term.
Branstad served four terms as governor before leaving office in 1998. He recently retired as head of Des Moines University to clear the way for a return to political office. |
