Description | JACKSON, Miss. - On May 18, Dr. Judy Alsobrooks Meredith, wife of James Meredith, first black to attend the University of Mississippi in 1962, filed a Title VII Sex and Age Discrimination lawsuit in Federal Court in Jackson, MS, against Jackson State University (JSU) and the Director of University Communications, Anthony Dean.
Dr. Meredith was hired by the University in 1994 to develop a low power TV station (TV23) to provide “hands on” training for students in the Department of Mass communications.
“Discrimination is wrong and very damaging to all people regardless of race, gender or age. I am shocked and disgusted that a woman with Judy’s credentials and experience who is almost solely responsible for this tremendous asset Jackson State has been given has been treated in such an illegal, shameless and unethical manner,” stated Evelyn Tatum Portie, counsel for Dr. Meredith. |
