Description | OTTAWA — Alexa McDonough is expected to announce this morning that she will not run for Parliament again.
A source close to Ms. McDonough said she will make "an announcement regarding her future political intentions" at 10:30 a.m. at the Lord Nelson Hotel, the same place where she celebrated her first victory as the MP for Halifax 11 years ago today.
The source would not say what exactly Ms. McDonough will announce but hinted that it’s the end of her career in federal politics.
Ms. McDonough, 63, led the federal NDP from 1995 to 2003, and in the 1997 election increased the party’s seat count from nine to 21, including six MPs from Nova Scotia. |
