Description | While everybody was watching the presidential races Tuesday, Anita Alvarez pulled off the surprise of the night. She edged out five other Democrats, several of them better-known public officials, to become the party's nominee for Cook County state's attorney. If she defeats Republican County Commissioner Tony Peraica in November, she will be the first woman and first Hispanic to serve as top prosecutor in the county. We hope she can be a change agent as well. Her opponent would be: The blunt-speaking Peraica has been shattering glass in Cook County government for years. |
