Description | The race for major-party nominations to the 5th Congressional District exploded with competition Monday as three new candidates — two Democrats and another Republican — entered the contests.
Decorated Iraq war veteran Bill Cahir, a State College Area High School graduate, said he will seek the Democratic nomination for the seat that will be left open by U.S. Rep. John Peterson’s retirement, and Clearfield County financial consultant Derek Walker joined the race for the Republican nomination.
Three-term Lock Haven Mayor Richard Vilello, 42, who said last week he was thinking about it, also said Monday he will definitely run for the Democratic nomination. |
