DescriptionHundreds of Oral Roberts University students received an e-mail in support of mayoral candidate Randi Miller that wrongly claimed to be from an assistant professor.

The e-mail was actually from Toby Huyssen, who is Miller's campaign manager and student president of ORU's College Republicans, Huyssen confirmed.

Political Internet bloggers backing Chris Medlock's mayoral candidacy have suggested that the e-mail could put ORU's nonprofit tax status in jeopardy.

But Medlock and incumbent Mayor Bill LaFortune, who are battling Miller for the GOP nomination, said they have no plans to make a formal complaint to the Internal Revenue Service.

"There would be no point in pursuing something like that," said Medlock, calling the e-mail an "error of judgment."

The Jan. 16 e-mail referenced ORU President Richard Roberts' personal endorsement of Miller and urged students to get involved in her campaign.

"President Roberts has thrown his support behind Randi Miller for mayor of Tulsa," the e-mail read. "The opposition has been quoted as saying that 'ORU is a paper tiger' and 'they can't deliver what's needed to win this race.' Well guess what, we need to show them just what we can deliver."
