Description | Incumbent state Rep. Russell Pearce, the Mesa Republican seeking a fourth legislative term, may have become vulnerable in the closing days of the campaign because of comments about illegal immigration, an opponent said Tuesday.
Democrat Tammie Pursley said Pearce's comments about a 1950s program that sent undocumented immigrants back to Mexico have damaged the public discussion about illegal immigration.
"He's hurt the dialogue," Pursley said, pointing out that people also are angry over Pearce's failure to attend several campaign forums in the district.
Pursley said she is running because "what Pearce stands for is not me."
"And I do not want that representation at the Capitol," Pursley said. |
